FRASER VALLEY REALTORS® DONATE $18,500 TO LOCAL FOOD BANKS

SURREY, BC – On behalf of Fraser Valley’s 2,800 REALTORS®, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board has donated $18,500 to five of its region’s food banks.

The donation is divided proportionately based on the number of REALTORS® represented in each community with $8,325 going to the Surrey Food Bank; $3,330 going to both the Langley Food Bank and Sources White Rock South Surrey Food Bank; $2,960 to the Abbotsford Food Bank; and $555 to St. Joseph’s Food Bank in Mission.

Scott Olson is the Board’s president. “Last year, REALTORS® in the Fraser Valley helped facilitate almost 14,000 property sales from White Rock to Mission and everywhere in between.

“That also happens to be the number of people who rely on the Surrey Food Bank every month to help them make ends meet. Food banks are a critical service in Fraser Valley that improves the quality of life for thousands of people. As REALTORS®, we have the privilege of serving our communities and feel strongly that we have a responsibility to give back.”

Marilyn Herrmann, Executive Director of the Surrey Food Bank, received FVREB’s cheque on behalf of the communities of North Delta and Surrey. “This donation embodies beautifully our “give where you live” campaign.

“REALTORS® live and work in our communities and understand that hunger does not discriminate. In 30 years of helping Surrey residents, we’re seeing more middle income families than ever before; people trying their very best often holding down multiple part-time or fulltime jobs that just need a helping hand.”

Herrmann adds, “As we head into what is typically our quietest time of year for donations, this gift could not have come at a better time and we thank REALTORS® from the bottom of our hearts.”
